Why we love Tex

12 years ago, Alva Lighting was born.

Our first fixtures were interior wall sconces. LED technology was new for the decorative lighting industry, we knew there was a strong need for high performance fixtures maximizing the benefit of LEDs.

Next step was to expand our product offering.

We knew there were limited options in Modernist exterior sconces. Clearly this was the category for us.

We knew 5 things.

  1. There was tremendous need for large scale exterior sconces.  Most manufacturers stopped at 24” or 36”.  When we looked at the scale of today’s building it was evident architects needed 60” product.

  2. Every sconce out there either produced ambient light or some form of accent lighting. None acknowledged the building surface material which the sconce would mount upon.  Architects put tremendous effort into selecting the right building material, whether it be stucco, brick, concrete or something specific to their needs. We knew there was a need for sconces which would graze the building façade and accent this material choice.

  3. Quality is critical.  Interior fixtures are easy to service.  Outdoor fixtures are often mounted high up in a harsh environment.  They need to be tough.

  4. Good clean modern design.  All want a timeless, almost iconic, look that will complement the building’s architecture.

  5. Price. Price must be rational.

2 years later Tex was born.  Tex took care of these 5 critical factors.

Why do we love Tex?

  1. The scale is perfect.  It works on columns and on open facades.  It comes in various sizes up to 90”.  Yes – 90”. We recently added 90” because our customers requested it.  On a large façade and/or column you need a 90” luminaire.

  2. The sealed LED assembly does a flawless job grazing the building surface.  Take a careful look at our installed photos to best understand how this fixture performs.  The LED module is IP66 rated so one can power wash the fixture.

  3. Every installation of Tex looks as good as the day they were installed.  This fixture holds up in the harshest of environments.  There are several Tex fixtures installed near where we work in Palm Desert, California. We have the harshest sun in the country, temperatures hovering around 118 degrees this time of year.  The paint on these Tex fixtures looks fresh and new, looks like they were just installed.  Fact is this installation is at least 5 years old.

  4. Tex works on new modern buildings as well as old classic architecture.  We have yet to see an installation of Tex where it does not work.

  5. We’ve kept a rational price on Tex from day one.

Expanding our Product Offering

Eventually we introduced Tess.  We were sitting in a meeting with the designer of Tex and suggested rounding out the fixture, call it Tess.  Tess has been quite successful.

We then chose to add a slot to Tess.  Why? Our customers asked for it, wanted to add an ambient light source. Tess-Slotted was born.

Next came Tessie. Why?  Our customers asked for a narrow version of Tess (7”) for narrow columns. Tessie has been quite successful as well.

Our agents have samples of Tex, Tess and Tessie for your perusal.  Numerous installation photos are on our website.  We hope you get to experience these wonderful fixtures. Contact us at sales@alvalight.com.
