What Multi-Family Designers want in an Entryway Fixture

There has been a change in how we live these past 5 years.  Both the Pandemic, the cost in housing prices, and interest rates have changed the residential landscape in North America.

  • Luxury condo living got expensive.  The studio 1 and or 2-bedroom units are no longer realistic for the masses.

  • Younger age groups no longer want a house.  They don’t want the work, nor the costs associated with this lifestyle.

  • MultiFamily living today is a lifestyle.  New Multi-Family building have gyms, parks, social spaces and some even have cocktail bars.  This is a shift in how we live, driving demand for Multi-Family stronger than ever.

Multi-Family residential housing is an active trend which is not stopping soon.

Multi-Family lighting and/or signage has become a significant business for Alva. We have numerous fixtures in this category, and continue to introduce new cutting-edge designs.

The big question: What does the Multi-Family Designer want in an Entry Fixture?

  • Grand Entry. A house can have plants and a myriad of other features at the entry.  Multi-family denotes a door in a corridor.  No space to do anything.  A fantastic wall sconce with numbers/braille can do wonders for the entry.  In this case the light fixture is EVERYTHING. Other than wall, door and/or trim color…. the fixture is the complete entry statement.

  • Tells The Story. The look of the entry fixture tells the story of what shall follow.  A cool modernist piece states that the interior will be as such. A traditional brass fixture makes a different statement.

  • Quality. The developers we work with have made it crystal clear.  They do not want fixtures to fail.  They expect these light fixtures to work forever.  Thus, we provide a 10-year warranty on everything.  We’ve been at this for 13 years.  Simply put, our fixtures do not fail.

  • Durable. Corridors take abuse.  We get it. Our fixtures are built to stand up to this abuse. Our resins are tough.  On our website we drop a 16-pound bowling ball on an Alva shade.  The shade survives with zero damage.  Premium paint finishes mean the fixtures will look amazing 10 years from now.

  • American Made. Our products are designed and made in Southern California.

  • Choices. Designers want to use something new, fresh.  None want to copy their peers.  We let you select shade shape, resin material, style and/or accessories.  You get to build what you want, something your peers have never seen.

  • Unit Numbers/Braille. We offer plaques with individual unit numbers and braille for each unit.  We do this for convenience and to comply with local code.

  • Doorbell Option. While most want the light and door numbers in one place many opt to have the doorbell integrated as well.  Easy for us, just ask.

  • Cost. Money is ALWAYS an issue.  Designers want cutting edge designs, customization and they want an amazing price.  We get it.  Find a fixture you like and ask us for the price. It will be a pleasant surprise.

  • Quick Delivery. Buildings go up fast.  The entry sconces are one of the last items ordered.  We know you need a 6-to-8-week delivery.  Again, we get it.

We’ve sold tens of thousands of sconces to multi-family customers.  It is our quickest growing category.  We have numerous new designs in the works for this critical customer base. If there is something we don’t currently offer never hesitate to ask.  We listen to our customers.
